Who are we?

  • Borders Children’s Charity has been established for over 60 years
  • We are run by a committee of dedicated volunteers
  • Each member rotates every 6 years, ensuring BCC remain progressive and innovative
  • We provide financial assistance for children in adverse situations across the Scottish Borders
  • We work hard to ensure minimal costs are incurred and 99% of every pound raised goes directly to our children in the Scottish Borders.
  • We support between 200-300 children each year, spending in the region of £50-60,000
  • We enjoy sharing Good News Stories, donation information and all the fun activities BCC get involved in. We are on FaceBook and Instagram, please follow us to keep updated and of course your comments are always welcomed.

How do we help?

  • We provide beds, bedding, bedroom furniture and floor rugs – often children are either sharing beds, have no bed, or what they do have is in an appalling condition
  • We assist with special equipment and funding for various disability needs – physical and mental
  • We give clothing and footwear – a basic need that too many Borders families struggle to meet
  • We finance requests for treats or holidays for young carers who are often not only looking after a parent, but siblings as well
  • We enable children in chaotic, stressful and abusive circumstances to enjoy activities – such as hobbies, sporting activities or school trips

How do we operate?

  • We receive applications from professionals working with Borders children – social workers, head teachers, community nurses, health visitors, etc
  • We meet monthly to discuss requests and allocate funds
  • Urgent requests are fast tracked to ensure children receive the funding immediately

The Borders Children’s Charity has been awarded The Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service.   This is a huge honour for all of those, past and present, involved with the BCC: committee members, volunteers and supporters.
